SKILLED NURSINGSkilled nursing care is health care given when a person needs skilled nursing staff by a registered nurse to manage, observe, and evaluate care. The goal of skilled nursing care is to help improve the patient's condition or to maintain the patient's condition and prevent it from getting worse.
PHYSICAL THERAPYPhysical therapists develop a plan for the patient to restore (as much as possible) the physical condition lost following surgery or as a result of a decline due to the disease process. They also teach patients how to prevent further injury or deterioration and how to maintain progress made.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPYOccupational therapists assist patients in restoring or enhancing their ability to perform their tasks of daily living . The goal is to achieve the highest level of functioning possible
SPEECH THERAPYSpeech therapists work to develop and restore the speech of individuals with communication disorders; usually these disorders are the result of trauma, surgery, or stroke. Speech therapists also help retrain patients in breathing, swallowing, and muscle control.
HOME HEALTH AIDESThe services of a home health aide are rendered in conjunction with skilled home health care services provided by a registered or licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech therapist. Home Health Aides mainly assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL's) which may include:
- Routine Hair/Skin Care
- Vital Signs
- Safe Transfers
- Catheter Bag Changes
MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKER
Social workers may assist clients in accessing the services that are available to them based on their insurance, and in learning what community resources exist. They may also facilitate the referral process, and provide counseling and patient advocacy.
NUTRITION THERAPYRegistered dieticians may educate clients on their nutritional needs, and on how to go about attaining them.
